CHILDREN MARCHING: Many black adults wanted to protest to end segregation in Birmingham, Alabama, but most adults could not because they were in fear of losing their jobs and not being able to support their family. So James Bevel and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were the first to propose that children should march, instead of the adults. In April 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and James Bevel got together to start the protest, but were in need of more people to protest with them. To get the campaign started, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. got arrested, thinking it would attract more protesters, but to his surprise, not many people came to protest. Because of this, MLK tried a different tactic to round up people for the march.
